10 Carden is hiring 2 summer students as a result of the 2014 Canada Summer Jobs program.


#1: Community Collaborateur Intern:

JOB DESCRIPTION:

10 Carden is a living lab for social change. We provide the conditions for community members, practitioners and researchers, working in collaboration, to explore ideas, create and sustain new initiatives and make discoveries. This position will support the work of 10 Carden through working directly with the Community Collaborateur to move the mission of 10 Carden forward. Projects and tasks will vary depending on time of year, focus of Community Collaborateur and the needs of 10 Carden. Location is downtown Guelph and is accessible by public transportation.

Eligibility

–        Full time student during the preceding academic year & intends to return to school in September full time.

–        Is between 15 to 30 years of age

–        A student in a secondary, post-secondary, CEGEP (Quebec only), vocational or technical program

–        A Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act* and is

–       Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations

–       Foreign students are not eligible

Responsibilities

–        Can serve as a Community Host, welcoming co-workers, community and members into the space.

–        Knowledgeable about 10 Carden, answering questions, providing support and engaging the community.

–        Administrative tasks – using word, excel, powerpoint and Google documents.

–        Responsible for ensuring the physical facility is clean and welcoming.

–        Take callers/visitors name(s) and contact info.

–        Work on Ad-Hoc projects and tasks – will be defined based on your particular interests and 10 Carden needs.

–        Provide 10 Carden space tours to potential new tenants and interested parties.

–        Create content for the 10 Carden blog, write media releases and document collaborations.

–        Other tasks as assigned.

Assets

–        Excellent communications skills – good with people.

–        Coordination and problem solving skills.

–        Ability to work independently as well as in small teams.

–        Strong ability/creativity to work in an under-resourced working environment.

–        Self-starter, creative, out-going, self-motivated, a good team worker.

–        Social media (Facebook, Twitter, Linkdin) and WordPress abilities are a strong asset.

Remuneration is $12/hr.

#2: Fourth Fridays Intern

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

10 Carden is a ‘community hub’ offering not for profit groups, businesses and individuals’ affordable and accessible shared space.10Carden provides administrative support to Fourth Friday event organization. Fourth Fridays is a once monthly arts/music/culture event that occurs in Downtown Guelph. You will do all of the communications, coordination and publicity for Fourth Fridays, with support of the Community Collaborator. Location is accessible by transportation.

 

Eligibility

–        Was a full time student during the preceding academic year and Intends to return to school in September on a full time basis

–        Is between 15 to 30 years of age

–        A student in a secondary, post-secondary, CEGEP (Quebec only), vocational or technical program

Responsibilities

–        Recruit and communicate with artists/musicians/performers

–        Connect and pair artists with venues as needed

–        Organize outside or other venues

–        Communicate with community partners

–        Maintain the Fourth Fridays (WordPress) website: www.fourthfridaysguelph.ca

–        Maintain the Fourth Fridays Facebook page, Twitter, Flickr and other social media accounts.

–        Work to engage the University of Guelph and wider Guelph community more intentionally.

–        Ensure that for each Fourth Friday, 10 Carden has art and/or a performer.

–        Coordinate the use of Community Music’s audio equipment when needed.

–        Write thank you to artists/performers/venues for their participation

–        Collaborate and work collectively with the volunteer Fourth Friday coordinators.

Assets

–        Excellent communications skills – good with people and juggling multiple tasks

–        Team Player with a passion for the arts, community and creative projects

–        Good oral, written and spoken fluency in English

–        Knowledge of facilitation skills and willing to conduct hands-on work

–        Self-motivated and resourceful individual; works well both individually and in a team

–        Time flexibility. Availability to work on weekends and some evenings

–        Familiar with Downtown Guelph

–        Strong ability/creativity to work in an under-resourced working environment

–        Photography, video and storytelling ability would be an asset
