Out and About – Landscapes from Here and There

July 2 – 31

Meet the Artist – every Wednesday in July 12:00PM-1:00PM

Living in Ontario is really a blessing for someone like me who loves to paint  – it is so beautiful here no matter what the season! Blue skies, the white and grey shadows of the snow, golden fields of summer and the burnt orange leaves of the fall – these are the colours I love to work with.

I have painted with acrylic and oils for a number of years.  Some wonderful instructors, both locally and abroad, have taught me a great deal.  I love the free expression of abstract painting, but equally I love to incorporate a more realistic approach.  I work in a studio at my small gallery in my home in Guelph, Ontario.  Whatever emerges, I try to tell a story, mine or yours, in every painting.  My work has been exhibited at the Ringling College of Art and Design Gallery in Englewood, on the Art Gallery of Ontario Portraits of Resilience website, at the Night at the Gallery Community Event, at the Guelph Creative Arts Association Artisan Gallery and most recently 20 of my paintings were  shown in a month-long exhibition and sale at the Kloepfer Gallery in Guelph, Ontario.  As well as having patrons from across this country, some of my work, purchased in Canada through my company Gillian Joseph Art and Craft, also hangs in residences in the United Kingdom, the United States and India.  Other examples of my work can be found on sale at the Artisan Store in the Old Quebec Street Shoppes in Guelph.  I welcome commissions.

My creative streak doesn’t stop at painting.  For years I have been designing and creating macrame pieces, custom clothing, unique jewelry and out-of-the-box crafts that can also be both decorative and functional.  One of my popular craft pieces is a hand-made dahlia wreath that is made with re-cycled paper from battered books, outdated colourful magazines or old musical scores.

As you can see, I love to paint and to create.  I hope that you can feel that joy as you navigate this exhibit!
