Meet 10C Changemaker: Christina

Posted on: August 13, 2024

Before embarking on her journey through law school at the age of 25, Christina Cameletti spent a summer volunteering as a Host Desk volunteer at 10C. It was during this time she witnessed firsthand the immense value 10C brought to its members, including small businesses, artists, and community organizations.

This experience left a lasting impression, sparking Christina’s desire to join 10C one day if she ever started her own business. Fast forward to the present, she joined her father’s law firm, Cameletti & Cameletti, and established her law practice in Guelph. In search of a space that would allow her to expand their vision into the broader community, she found her way back to 10C, a place that had inspired her years earlier.

Christina is a changemaker because she works around “Access to Justice” (A2J). She envisions a world where everyone in Guelph fully understands their legal rights and responsibilities. Legal information is often complex and difficult to navigate, and reliable information can be hard to find without the assistance of a lawyer. Unfortunately, lawyers can be prohibitively expensive, and legal aid is only available in certain circumstances, typically for the most financially marginalized. This leaves many people without much-needed financial assistance for legal issues, which can arise in everyday situations like disputes over phone bills, conflicts with an ex-partner, or understanding a lease.

In her practice, she applies many A2J principles learned from her background working at two community legal clinics. She offers fixed fee pricing, limited scope retainers, and even 30-minute free legal consultations—a somewhat controversial move in the legal world, where many firms charge for initial consultations.

As a 10C changemaker, one of her favorite activities is giving educational presentations in the community on various legal topics. During her time as an articling student at a legal clinic, she presented on Housing Rights and Disability Rights. Now, she offers presentations on Real Estate, Wills, and Powers of Attorney, with plans to expand into Family Law topics as her practice grows.

Come join Christina on September 12, as she leads her first workshop at 10C on planning and preparation of a will. Get your questions answered and bring home an easy step by step list to help guide you through a Will making process.
