In this full-day working session, held in-person at 10C Shared Space, participants will be guided step-by-step through determining whether charitable status is right for them and each question of the charity application forms. After each section is explained, participants will be provided with a limited amount of time to fill in each question, followed by question periods.
Participants will not only learn how to apply for charitable status and the rules that govern registered charities under the Income Tax Act, but will also be provided with tips and tricks relating to the varying areas of law that impact charity governance and operations.
This session is for currently incorporated nonprofits as well as unincorporated grassroots groups. This session is not for business or co-operative corporations.
To do: Participants will be provided with a workbook ahead of time which participants are expected to review. Participants will be able to make more of the time if they bring the following information:
- Articles of incorporation and bylaws
- Next year’s proposed budget
- Last year’s financial statements (if the organization operated last financial year)
- Information on all current and former directors
