“Celebrations of Survivorship” is a collection of artworks by survivors of sexual violence. As diverse as the artists’ experiences of violence itself, the works reflect the unique ways each artist shapes commonalities such as trauma, healing and resilience.

This exhibit is an annual tradition at Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis’ Sexual Assault Centre. G-W WIC supports survivors through counselling and practical assistance, as well as creative avenues for healing. Art can be a powerful tool in a survivor’s journey, often allowing the artist a means of expressing what can’t be contained by words.

Presented in May for Sexual Violence Prevention Month, a month when sexual assault centres across Canada host events to raise awareness about rising rates of sexual violence in Canada, to voice solidarity with those who have survived violence and to call for the lasting political and social changes that will end sexual violence altogether.

On May 1, we’ll be hosting an opening reception at the gallery from 3-5pm. There will be coffee and tea on hand, as well as some poetry performances. Please stop in!

Can’t make it to the event? You can come by and see the collection M-F 8:30am to 5:00pm until May 31.
