Food Service Facility Cleaners

10C Shared Space (10C) is currently seeking part-time Facility Cleaner(s) to support the cleaning and care for our multi-use 42 Carden Street and Farmers’ Market sites. Depending on the candidate(s), this role offers up to 15 hours per week.

Core Responsibilities of the Facility Cleaners will include:

Cleaning & Sanitation

  • Support staff, members and volunteers by maintaining an organized, functional, and clean environment. Track cleaning activities to written cleaning logs.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all kitchen and food service areas, including food prep stations, storage spaces, kitchenettes and common areas.
  • Ensure all surfaces, equipment and utensils are cleaned, disinfected, and stored and used by members properly.
  • Ensure equipment is in good operating order and support members with appropriate training and use of all equipment and supplies. 
  • Follow and uphold food safety and hygiene standards in accordance with health regulations and ensure compliance with workplace safety policies, including proper handling of cleaning chemicals.
  • Manage waste disposal, including composting, recycling, and garbage collection, ensuring proper sorting and timely removal, and management by members.
  • Manage onsite laundry, including linens and aprons for event rentals and cooking classes, ensuring they are cleaned, folded and ready for use.

Facility Organization & Maintenance

  • Keep kitchen and food service spaces well-organized, ensuring efficient workflow and accessibility of tools and ingredients.
  • Maintain storage areas, ensuring dry goods, perishables, and equipment are properly stored and labeled, including member storage of items.
  • Identify and report maintenance needs for kitchen equipment and infrastructure.
  • Ensure proper ventilation and temperature control in storage and preparation areas.
  • Assist in setting up and breaking down kitchen spaces, event and meeting spaces before and after events or programs.

Inventory & Supply Management

  • Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies in all spaces (cleaning materials, paper towel, toilet paper, hand soap, sanitizer and kitchen supplies) and notify team of supply ordering needs.
  • Monitor all dish (includes plates, bowls, cutlery, mugs and wine glasses) inventory in kitchens, ensuring stock is clean, available and ready for rentals and classes.

General Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Support with overall building cleaning and care, with a focus on specific areas and tasks including:
  • Thorough washroom cleaning on all floors
  • Vacuuming, sweeping and mopping floors, carpets and stairwells
  • Dusting and wiping of all surfaces including window sills, bookshelves, tables and baseboards
  • Disposing and emptying of building recycling, compost and waste
  • Cleaning and wiping of tables, shared spaces and equipment
  • Moving or arranging equipment and furniture as requested
  • Light repair work such as replacing light bulbs and batteries
  • Notifying supervising staff of recurring deficiencies or repair needs

You bring these experiences and abilities to the role:

  • Experience working as a cleaner ideally in a food-service context
  • Knowledge of cleaning products, chemicals and processes
  • Food safety certification, or willingness to be certified in first month of employment
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations and best practices
  • Enthusiasm for sharing ideas around improving building systems and efficiencies
  • Some physical demands of the job include mopping, sweeping, light lifting (15-20kg), and emptying waste containers

Compensation and Details:

  • Compensation will match Living Wage Guelph-Wellington, current rate is $21.30 per hour
  • Start date is as soon as possible. 
  • Work location is onsite at 42 Carden Street/2 Gordon Street
  • We are seeking part-time role(s) based on 9 – 15 hours per week.
  • Core required shifts include:
  • Wednesdays: 2:00pm-5:00pm
  • Mondays and Fridays 6:00am-9:00am
  • Sundays 6:00am-9:00am OR 6:00pm-9:00pm
  • Opportunity to grow into a more comprehensive role based on the candidate

Today, 10C activates 25,000 s.f. of real estate for social purposes, such as the 10C community hub on Carden Street, which is home to the Nourish shared community commercial kitchen, an art gallery, and urban agriculture projects.  In 2022, 10C is activating the Guelph Farmers’ Market with a goal of wider cultural connection.
