We’re excited to share updates about the ongoing improvements to the washrooms at the Guelph Farmers’ Market. These changes are part of our commitment to making the market a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible space for everyone.
Phase 1: What We’ve Done So Far
In 2023, 10C began updating the washrooms at the Guelph Farmers’ Market, with a long-term plan of gender-neutral washrooms throughout the market. As part of Phase 1, we added two universal accessible washrooms—completed in early 2024.
Phase 2: What’s Next

In phase 2 the older gendered washrooms will be renovated into multi-user, all gender facilities by the end of December 2025. These new washrooms will be:
- Inclusive: Open to people of all gender identities and expressions
- Private: Each toilet stall will have floor-to-ceiling walls and doors
- Family-friendly: Including a shared handwashing area and a baby change table
This decision is in direct alignment with 10C’s commitment to inclusive placemaking and fostering a culture of respect, goodwill, and harmonious coexistence. These upgrades are guided by values of respect, safety, and inclusion.
Why These Changes Matter:
- All individuals reserve the right to access facilities free from harassment and discrimination.
- Gender specific washrooms are a barrier for many, including non-binary, trans, and two-spirited individuals.
- All-gender facilities are more convenient for parents with children, and for individuals with physical disabilities and their caregivers.
- These changes support a growing market community with more stalls and sinks.
- They align with City of Guelph standards noted in the Facilities Accessibility Design Manual and findings from the 2023 Access to Public Washrooms in Guelph report, which highlights the need for more universal and inclusive facilities.
- More facilities are integrating all-gender washrooms, including the University of Guelph, YMCA-YWCA, and University of Waterloo to name a few. If you’d like to see a private business with all-gender washrooms, visit Royal City Brewing.
