Meet 10C Changemakers: Saidat Shonoiki and Monsurat Aileru

Afromena Foods Canada is building a fair, inclusive, and sustainable food system—one that honours farmers, protects the land, and connects cultures. They are working to source organically grown hibiscus and moringa from women farmers in Africa, select herbs from the Middle East, and blend them with Canadian fruits, all wrapped in Indian-inspired packaging. This global collaboration turns food into opportunity, supports dignified livelihoods, and helps preserve healthy soil for future food security.

Both Saidat and Monsurat started working with 10C because it represents exactly what early-stage, purpose-driven businesses need: a place to start and a community that truly supports you. From day one, the team has been incredibly responsive, welcoming, and ready to help. Working out of the Nourish Kitchen removed many of the usual barriers to launching a food business and allowed them to bring products to market with confidence and ease. Choosing 10C also felt natural because Guelph feels like home to us as an agri-food expert. It’s a hub for food innovation, sustainability, and agriculture—and we also operate a farm in Guelph. Being here aligns their values, work, and long-term vision, making 10C the right environment for Afromena to grow.

Their dream is simple but powerful: to see Afromena tea in homes and grocery stores across Canada and around the world. Not just as a beverage, but as a symbol of how everyday choices can bring people closer together.
