Joan Hug-Valeriote is a native of Guelph and an award-winning quilt/fibre artist and longarm quilter, Certified Ontario French Teacher – FSL Specialist, Certified California Studio Teacher and a documentary film and video maker.

A recognized Ontario Artist, she was subsidized by the Ontario Arts Council as a Visiting Artist in Education and taught quilting as part of the Art Curriculum in Ontario schools for more than ten years after retiring from the regular classroom and after an earlier career in film as a Continuity Supervisor and member of IATSE.(International Alliance of Stage and Film Technicians).

An artist member of Studio Art Quilt Associates, she designs and produces her own quilted works, as well as doing commissions and providing longarm quilting services in Guelph, Ontario.

Joan creates landscapes, abstracts and textile adaptations from photographs along with art quilts and bedquilts (modern and traditional) on her Innova M24 longarm quilting machine and her domestic sewing machines.

Joan will be the Artist in Gallery during October of 2026 and sharing her quilts with the Guelph community.
