Art @ 10C: Feral Elegy

Exhibition by local artist Morgyn Roberts

January 7-29

Reception: January 25 5-7PM

“Feral Elegy, ties together the past two years of my work surrounding the central theme of mythological follies and fate being represented through nature motifs. To accomplish this, I primarily have embraced the medium of oil paint as well as occasional mixed
media elements, heightening the story telling abilities of the pieces.

Feral Elegy contains nine works, each depicting animals in different fated scenarios, a lamb
marked for slaughter, two sockeye salmon deceased after their spawn, and a sheep dog protecting his flock who are to be killed by the hands of his keeper. I enjoy toying with this idea of fate, even when not kind, having a melancholic beauty to it. I paint these animals’ stories to honour that beauty, as well as their lives, lives that us humans tend to disregard or unjustly attempt to control.”
