10C Shared Space (10C) is currently seeking a motivated and collaborative Market Attendant to join the team in a part-time capacity (up to 10 hours per week). Working as part of 10C and the Guelph Farmers’ Market team, this role supports the Saturday market, vendors and customers.
This role is for you if you enjoy working directly with a diversity of people and contributing behind the scenes to achieve a responsive, welcoming and well functioning market environment. The Market Attendant reports to the Market Lead and works with a small team to facilitate the Saturday operation of the Guelph Farmers’ Market.

Responsibilities of the Market Attendant will include:
Market logistics for Saturday (Year Round) Markets:
- Assist with operations on market day, including preparing all areas of the facility in advance of market opening, as well as closing duties.
- Assist with maintaining a safe environment throughout the facility at all times.
- Empty waste containers and dispose of waste in designated areas.
- General cleaning of washrooms and seating areas.
- Spot mopping, sweeping entrance ways, shoveling doorways, replacing towels in paper towels dispensers, and soap where necessary
- Market attendance counts
- Provide vendors a break from their booth
- Work with enthusiasm and professionalism as a member of the Market operations team
- Assist with promotional activities and event execution.
- In collaboration with the 10C and the market team, take initiative and think creatively about ways to improve market operations
- Other related duties as assigned
You bring these experiences and abilities to the role:
- Flexible schedule with availability to work regular Saturday morning/afternoon to support main market activities
- Experience in or enthusiasm for customer service and/or food service
- You are a problem solver, can take initiative and like to think creatively about ways to increase community engagement in local activities
- You enjoy working as part of a dynamic and fast-paced team and have great attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement
- Experience supporting community events and meetings with tasks like set-up, take down and anticipating a variety of needs
- Commitment and enthusiasm to working as part of a team, and be a reliable self-starter able to function with minimal supervision
- Basic computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
- Able to understand and comprehend and execute all policies and procedures as they relate to the work being performed.
- Experience supporting community programs, events, workshops and / or meetings with tasks like set-up, take down, anticipating needs and supporting community is an asset.
- Physical labour will be a part of this role (i.e. moving tables, setting up tents) including the ability to lift 50lbs, and working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
Compensation and Details:
- This is a part-time opportunity with a guaranteed base of up to 10 hours/week with a starting wage of $23.00/hour (Living Wage for Guelph-Wellington)
- Core hours of work are every Saturday from 7:30am-3:00pm
- The work location is onsite at the Guelph Farmers’ Market at 2 Gordon Street in downtown Guelph
