A common shared experience among many First Nations, Metis, and Inuit is the tradition of smudging. Smudging involves the burning of one or more plants gathered from the land. The four sacred plants commonly used in ceremonies are tobacco, sage, cedar, and sweetgrass.
We acknowledge that smoke may make it difficult for people with sensitivities and allergies but also recognize the importance of this practice to many members of our community.
10C welcomes the tradition of smudging in our shared space at 42 Carden St. The instructions below have been outlined to ensure that smudging can be done free from disruption and with limited barriers.
If you are booking space on Skedda you can select Smudging Ceremony in the dropdown menu under ‘Additional Amenities Needed’.
Upon booking space at 10C, please inform staff 48 hours in advance of your booking that you intend to smudge by contacting us at [email protected] – please include the time that smudging will take place. Notifying staff in advance allows us to disable the fire system and sprinklers.
If you have any questions or concerns about smudging at 10C please connect with us at [email protected]
