10C Shared Space (10C) is currently seeking part-time occasional Event Assistants to join the team. This is an excellent role to develop professional event logistics and communications skills, while working with a variety of community members within a supportive and collaborative team environment.
This role will provide administrative and logistical support for community events and programs. They will assist with event setup, registration, vendor coordination, and day-of-event operations. This role requires strong organizational skills, flexibility with scheduling, and ability to work evenings/weekends as needed. Experience with event planning or community programming is preferred.
This is a role that offers occasional, as-needed shifts. Hours will vary based on event bookings at 10C and the Guelph Farmers’ Market. Events will vary in duration, time of day, and type of support needed. We are hiring for multiple individuals and anticipate offering 1-2 shifts per month.
Responsibilities of the Event Assistants will include:
Event Support – Helping with event setup, take down, and on-site coordination during events
- Set-up and reset meeting and event spaces based on booking requests, including arranging furniture, setting out supplies (this includes dishes, stationary, flip charts etc).
- Setting up for larger events, including setting up tech equipment, bartending, food service, and space clean up after event
- Assist with greeting members and building users, this may include ticket sales, registration and light reception duties
Operational Support – Take pride and responsibility in the maintenance of 10C spaces and connect to the local community.
- Support the running of 10C event bookings from planning and set-up through to execution. This will also include general administrative duties such as data entry, filing, document management and reporting space feedback.
- Provide building cleaning, help maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen and food service areas, including food prep stations, storage spaces, kitchenettes and common areas
- Support waste disposal, including composting, recycling, and garbage collection, ensuring proper sorting and timely removal.
- Help support onsite laundry, including linens and aprons for event rentals and cooking classes, ensuring they are cleaned, folded and ready for use.
- Monitor all dishes (includes plates, bowls, cutlery, mugs and wine glasses) inventory in kitchens, ensuring stock is clean and ready for rentals.
- Use initiative and creative thinking to make suggestions for improved event operations and organizational efficiencies.
The Event Assistants will bring these experiences and abilities to the role:
- Experience in customer service or in a community facing role with comfort in answering guest inquiries
- Ability and willingness to anticipate needs, set-up and support in the running of successful events and meetings
- Commitment and enthusiasm to working as part of a dynamic and fast-paced team
- Dedicated to community building, creating equitable and dynamic public spaces and conversations for all community members to feel their authentic self.
- Flexibility and adaptability to handle changing priorities and unexpected situations.
- Physical labour (able to lift up to 25 lbs), ability to move furniture, equipment and handle light cleaning duties
Compensation and Details:
- This position will include multiple roles and the hours of work will be be based on special event bookings on an as needed basis
- The work location is fully onsite at 10C Shared Space or Guelph Farmers’ Market
- This is a contract role at $21.30/hour (Ontario Living Wage for Guelph-Wellington).
- Please indicate if you have training such as First Aid/CPR, Smart Serve Ontario and Safe Food Handling Certification. Training can be provided if needed.
