In 2002, Brent co-founded Blue North Strategies, a consulting and creative agency which he managed for 14 years. During that time he worked extensively as a strategic consultant and facilitator with teams in both the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors.
More recently, in 2016, Brent left those endeavours to start Heartwood Farm & Cidery at his home farm. Heartwood makes a lineup of craft ciders – both alcoholic and non-alcoholic – and retails and wholesales them widely in Ontario.
Kieran, Brent’s eldest son, joined Heartwood Farm & Cidery in 2019, and as Business Development Manager, has almost tripled its sales since joining.
Together, and with Matt Steinman, Production Manager, they spend time working “on”, not just “in” the business, blending a desire to achieve goals with a sensitivity to the unplanned things that emerge along the way.
