f.u.n. Fridays: Building Community through a Food Focused Weekly Event

“f.u.n. Fridays” is a weekly community gathering organized by Food Uniting Neighbours (f.u.n.) at Shelldale Gym, aiming to address food access challenges and foster community in the Onward Willow neighbourhood. Started in 2022, f.u.n. has introduced various programs and events, including distributing gift cards, solving transportation issues, hosting Community Cafes, and facilitating cooking and gardening workshops.

Launched in September 2023, f.u.n. Fridays attract up to 75 community members weekly. The event brings the community together through food, and provides access to resources from partners like Groceries from the SEED. f.u.n. Fridays also contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 10 (Reduced Equality) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).

f.u.n. Fridays have had a positive impact on the community, fostering inclusivity, connection, and a lively atmosphere. With ongoing support from the community and partners in Guelph, f.u.n. Fridays can continue to offer a friendly community space, along with weekly meals and support for food access in Onward Willow.
