Rebel Knowledge Symposium: Food and Housing Injustice

Worried about food and housing? Wondering if you’re going to spend the rest of your life worried about food and housing?

Instead, gather, learn, share, strategize and organize at OPIRG Guelph’s 2024 Rebel Knowledge Symposium as we focus on the realities of housing and food injustice.

Join us at the University Centre at the University of Guelph on March 2nd and 3rd, 2024 for two dynamic days of workshops, panel discussions, thought provoking speakers, an information fair, a student town hall, interactive skill shares, opportunities for creative expression, delicious food and a beautiful chance to sow seeds of liberation and cultivate solidarity.


Volunteers Needed for Circular Store

The Guelph Tool Library’s Circular Store is looking for volunteers to help at least 2 hours each week with customer service and donation sorting. We offer training and references as well as one full year Tool Library Membership for all volunteers!

Guelph Dance is currently seeking enthusiastic volunteers for our 2024 March Break and Summer Arts Explosion Camps.

A fun experience for those interested in the arts and a great opportunity to work with children of all abilities and ages. Perfect experience for future camp counsellors, teachers, teaching artists, and youth workers.

This is a high energy group, volunteers will have the opportunity to engage with campers, exercise leadership skills, be creative and encourage creativity, lead games and activities, support teaching artists and build relationships with campers, peers and instructors.


Did You Eat? Closing Reception

Did You Eat? is an exhibition programmed in conjunction with our upcoming Symposium: Pork & Screens. Curated by Maddie Lychek, the show features works by Evangeline Brooks, Joni Cheung, Christina Hajjar, and Racquel Rowe, exploring notions of tradition, adjunct cultures, miscommunication, family recipes, embodied knowledge, YouTube cooking shows.

Closing Reception Friday, February 9th, 7-pm. This closing reception will be a potluck so feel free to bring your favourite dish or snack!


Soba’s Corner: A Chinese-Canadian Cooking Class (Virtual Workshop)

Join Snack Witch Joni Cheung as she teaches participants how to make Montréal Peanut Butter Dumplings while leading open discussion on food, identity and home live on Zoom.

This workshop is offered as a part of Ed Video’s upcoming symposium: Pork & Screens​. Participants will receive the ingredient list upon registration.

Winterhill Farm & Garden has 1 garden plot (20 rows X 100 feet long) and 2 x 50 feet cold frames (covered space with no heat) available for rent this season. We are located in the beautiful Guelph/Eramosa area and have south-facing gardens located on top of a hill that allows for plenty of sunshine and great drainage. The gorgeous views are a bonus!

Fire By Friction: an Adult Workshop at GOS

Equal parts practical and magical, Fire By Friction is a crackling combination of hands-on experience, demonstration, coaching, story-telling, troubleshooting, and celebration of successes and failures! Participants can expect to engage in a wide range of fire-making tools and techniques, from how to train our eyes for the good tinder to good fire-making songs, to flint & steel, charcloth, and hand-drill, with time spent on cultural context, demonstration, and Q&A with GOS instructors.

Spring is our most popular season. Kids have been inside too long, the world is coming alive, and adventure is on the wind. Guelph Outdoor School Spring Registration opens Wednesday, February 14th, at 10 am for Weekly Outdoor Immersion programs for kids aged 4 – 14.

Give us a call to talk about programs to suit your particular child and get inspired about how nature-connection can support your kid on all the metrics: social/emotional, physical/developmental, and cognitive/academic.
