Founded in 2014, Revel Cider emerged from an organic vegetable farm where Tariq, amidst his studies in plant science at the University of Guelph, lived and developed a love for food and drink fermentation. Dry ciders weren’t available in Ontario at the time, so he started making his own after winning a small grant from the university. Later, Tariq expanded his creations to naturally fermented pickles and mulberry wine on the farm’s outdoor kitchen.
-Tariq, Founder and Owner of Revel Cider“The very first thing I made was a mulberry wine picked on an organic vegetable farm just north of Hamilton. Tasting wine from berries grown steps away from where I was sleeping was what got me hooked on fermentation.”
Based in Guelph, Ontario, Revel offers a range of wild-fermented ciders, wines, and vermouths, with their most popular offerings being Soif made with strawberries, Montmorency cherries and red wine skins (Maréchal Foch grapes) and foraged vermouths which customers use to explore new cocktails they can make at home. Participating in the Guelph Farmers’ Market since 2022, Revel had the opportunity to connect with locals and visitors alike. The Revel team shares their knowledge with market goers, and patrons have developed a deep appreciation for their craft – enjoying a wide selection of seasonal and staple flavours.
Revel sources fruits and flowers grown across Ontario, foraged and from local farms, taking inspiration from the natural world in each of their products. Through the practice of wild fermentation, Revel combines farm-grown and foraged ingredients to capture the essence of the local region.
Revel’s ciders, wines and vermouth are all wild fermented, unfiltered and unrefined to preserve the true essence of Ontario-grown fruits and flowers. Their ciders and wines are aged in various vessels, in oak, clay amphora and stainless steel, protecting them from oxygen and allowing microorganisms to infuse texture and salinity into their final products.
There is no added sugar and the products stay true to their natural ingredients – 100% Ontario grown fruit and flowers.
For the past seven years Revel has been crafting their products at their Dawson Rd facility, which houses both their winery and Tasting Room. Customers can relax in their warm bar and have their pick from a range of ciders, wines, beer or cocktails – while snacking on an assortment of tasty morsels, like the whipped artichoke dip or smoked Castelvetrano olives.
