10C is currently hiring several positions to join the team this summer:

  • Communications Assistant: This is an excellent role to develop professional storytelling abilities, working with a variety of community members, within a supportive and creative team environment. 
  • Administrative Assistant: This is a great opportunity to learn about the core operations of a non-profit organization and get a taste of many different types of work.
  • Farmers’ Market Assistant: Working as part of the 10C and Farmers’ Market team, the person in this role will work to support the outreach and logistics at the Guelph Farmers’ Market.
  • Impact & Evaluation Assistant: Working as part of the SDG Cities team, the Impact & Evaluation Assistant will support impact measurement, report writing, and project outreach.

Communications Assistant

10C is currently seeking a Communications Assistant to join the team this summer.  This is an excellent role to develop professional storytelling abilities, working with a variety of community members, within a supportive and creative team environment. 

Responsibilities of the Communications Assistant will include:

Member and Partner Profiles- In close collaboration with the 10C staff team, the Communications Assistant will get to know the 10C member community to develop engaging stories through digital media. These tasks will include:

  • Work with 10C staff team to identify and prioritize member list 
  • Communicate and collaborate with individual members to understand and document their stories
  • Use digital media (blog, newsletter, social media) to curate and share member story content including written content, photos and videos

10C Projects and Programs – Working closely with other members of the 10C team, the Communications Assistant will identify areas and types of communications support needed.

  • Promote arts and cultural events, including bi-weekly visual arts in 10C’s streetfront gallery 
  • Support the development of engaging presentations and reports across a variety of platforms
  • Curate and share project/program content through digital media channels (i.e. event promotions, project profiles, resource sharing)
  • Create and schedule content for social media using graphic design and scheduling programs
  • Design printed promotional materials for various projects and programs

Other tasks and responsibilities:

  • In this role and in consultation with their supervisor, the Communications Assistant will have the opportunity to take on tasks and responsibilities in line with their individual interests.

The Communications Assistant will bring these experiences and abilities to the role:

  • Commitment and enthusiasm to working as part of a dynamic and fast-paced team
  • Exceptional communication skills with experience in social media campaigns, story-telling and/or copywriting
  • Comfort and familiarity with software programs like Google Workspace, Later, Mail Chimp basic design skills using Canva and/or Adobe Suite an asset
  • Experience creating content for various social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and/or other networks
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to getting it right
  • Dedicated to community building, creating equitable and dynamic public spaces and conversations
  • Creativity and curiosity

Compensation and Details:

  • The work location is onsite at 10C Shared Space (so long as public health measures allow) at 42 Carden Street, Guelph
  • This is a part-time role based on 30 hours/week at $19.95/hour (Ontario living wage for Guelph-Wellington).
  • The position duration is 9 weeks and the start date as early as June 5, 2023 or as late as July 3, 2023.
  • Communications Assistant may be required to use their own computer for this role.
  • Eligibility: Applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 30 and meet eligibility criteria for the 2023 Canada Summer Jobs program. Preference will be given to applicants who are enrolled in or have completed a post-secondary program with a focus on: sustainability, urban planning, horticulture, environmental studies, food studies, etc. Students in other fields and high school students with related interests and experience are also encouraged to apply.

Administrative Assistant

Responsibilities of the Administrative Assistant will include:

  • In collaboration with the 10C team, engage in member, community and business meetings and interactions in person and via phone and email to answer questions, support information requests and ensure timely follow-up.
  • Assist with greeting members and building users, and additional reception duties
  • Set-up and reset meeting and event spaces, including arranging furniture, setting out stationary supplies and setting up tech equipment
  • Data entry and analysis, ensuring customer relationship management platform contact information is kept up to date
  • Writing and editing copy for various internal and external documents
  • Duties including photocopying, printing, sorting mail, and filing.
  • Support invoicing and payments using digital platforms.
  • Providing back-up administrative support for other team members as needed.
  • Use initiative and creative thinking to make suggestions for improved operations and organizational efficiencies.
  • In this role and in consultation with their supervisor, the Administrative Assistant will have the opportunity to take on tasks and responsibilities in line with their individual interests.

The Administrative Assistant will bring these experiences and abilities to the role:

  • Commitment and enthusiasm to working as part of a dynamic and fast-paced team
  • Experience in customer service or in community facing role
  • Ability and willingness to anticipate needs and support in the running of community events
  • Exceptional communication skills with experience in copywriting and editing an asset
  • Comfort and familiarity with a variety of software programs like Google Workspace and Customer Relationship Management software
  • Highly-organized with an eye for detail and good process
  • Dedicated to community building, creating equitable and dynamic public spaces and conversations
  • Creativity and curiosity
  • Some physical labour will be a part of this role (i.e. moving tables, setting-up meeting rooms)

Compensation and Details:

  • This is a part-time role based on 30 hours/week at $19.95/hour (Ontario living wage for Guelph-Wellington.

Farmers’ Market Assistant

Responsibilities of the Farmers’ Market Assistant will include:

Market logistics:

  • Support site set-up and preparation of all areas of the facility in advance of market opening, including support for vendor set-up, wayfinding materials, and maintenance before, during and after markets
  • Support site take down and closing duties to reset space after the markets
  • Support tasks related to market execution, including responding to urgent vendor concerns, maintaining a clean and safe environment and performing other duties as needed
  • Support vendor invoicing and payments using online and digital platforms
  • Be available for customer questions and support during markets
  • Support the set-up and execution of events taking place on market grounds, including community meetings, food events and other market events, ensure the space is available and accessible for community use
  • In collaboration with the 10C and market teams, take initiative and think creatively about ways to improve market operations

Outreach:

  • In close collaboration with the 10C staff team, the Farmers’ Market Assistant will get to know the market vendor community to develop engaging stories through digital media (blog, newsletter, social media) including written content, photos and videos.
  • Support the development and dissemination of the Farmers’ Market newsletter, including print versions highlighting updates available on Saturdays for vendors and customers
  • Design and create signs, posters and other printed materials

Other tasks and responsibilities:

  • In this role and in consultation with their supervisor, the Farmers’ Market Assistant will have the opportunity to take on tasks and responsibilities in line with their individual interests.

The Farmers’ Market Assistant will bring these experiences and abilities to the role:

  • Commitment and enthusiasm to working as part of a dynamic and fast-paced team
  • Experience in or enthusiasm for customer service and/or food service
  • Exceptional communication skills with experience in social media campaigns, story-telling and/or copywriting
  • Experience supporting community events and meetings with tasks like set-up, take down and anticipating needs
  • Comfort and familiarity with software programs like Google Workspace, Customer Relationship Management software, Canva and / or Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience creating content for various social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and/or other networks

Compensation and Details:

  • The work location is onsite at 10C Shared Space (so long as public health measures allow) at 42 Carden Street, Guelph
  • This is a part-time role based on 30 hours/week at $19.95/hour (Ontario living wage for Guelph-Wellington)
  • Hours of work will include some evening and weekend work in line with market hours – Thursdays 4:00pm to 7:00pm and Saturdays 8:00am to 1:00pm (attendance at all markets is not mandatory)
  • The position duration is 9 weeks and the start date as early as June 5, 2023 or as late as July 3, 2023
  • Farmers’ Market Assistant may be required to use their own computer for this role

Impact & Evaluation Assistant

Responsibilities of the Impact & Evaluation Assistant will include:

Impact measurement: 

  • Social impact data analysis 
  • Community engagement and workshop facilitation with organizations and businesses (‘clients’) engaged in impact measurement and evaluation 

Report writing: 

  • Working with the SDG Cities project team, write content for impact reporting based on impact measurement
  • Use templates to create and format reports
  • Publish to websites and online content platforms

Outreach:

  • Show initiative and creativity in creating engagement outreach content including blogs, social media posts and newsletter content
  • Build digital skills in using online communications platforms including WordPress and Canva
  • Create print materials for in person engagement opportunities
  • Provide support for facilitation of in-person and virtual impact measurement workshops 

Other tasks and responsibilities:

  • In this role and in consultation with their supervisor, the Impact & Evaluation Assistant will have the opportunity to take on tasks and responsibilities in line with their individual interests.

The Impact & Evaluation Assistant will bring these experiences and abilities to the role:

  • Commitment and enthusiasm to working as part of a dynamic and fast-paced team
  • Experience in data analysis and report writing
  • Knowledge of impact measurement language and tools 
  • Exceptional communication skills with experience in social media campaigns, storytelling and/or copywriting
  • Enthusiasm for engaging with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Some familiarity with the SDGs is an asset.
  • Comfort and familiarity with software programs like Google Workspace, Airtable, Canva and/or Adobe Suite
  • Experience creating content for various social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and/or other networks
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to getting it right
  • Dedicated to community building, creating equitable and dynamic public spaces and conversations
