10C is currently hiring for Three positions to join the team this summer:

  • Community Engagement Assistant: This is an excellent role to develop professional storytelling abilities, communications skills, and event support capacities while working with a variety of community members, within a supportive and creative team environment.
  • Farmers’ Market Assistant: Working as part of the 10C and Farmers’ Market team, the person in this role will work to support the outreach and logistics at the Guelph Farmers’ Market.
  • Design Assistant: This is an excellent role to develop digital design and engagement capabilities and working within a supportive and creative non-profit team environment.

Design Assistant

Responsibilities of the Design Assistant will include:

  • Support engagement and communications strategies for 10C and the Guelph Farmers’ Market
  • Create posters, brochures and other print promotional materials for various programs, projects and initiatives
  • Design templates and guides for use by staff to create their own graphics
  • Support in the creation of graphics for 10C/Farmers’ Market website, newsletters and social media
  • Update 10C project and program brand guides and support staff in adopting their use
  • Use design and the creation of communications materials and messaging to amplify messages and goals of project and programs, including local food security, sustainability and circularity
  • Think creatively about sustainable design and printing methods to ensure assets match 10C goals and values
  • Use AODA design guidelines to ensure that all materials are accessible
  • Receive and incorporate feedback on designs from team, members and visitors
  • Enhance design and readability of technical documents associated with projects and programs
  • If of interest, the Design Assistant may assist and support in the creation of short videos for promotional purposes
  • In this role and in consultation with their supervisor, the Design Assistant will have the opportunity to take on tasks and responsibilities in line with their individual interests.

The Design Assistant will bring these experiences and abilities to the role:

  • Considerable design experience using Adobe suite and Canva, with a portfolio of work to be shared with application
  • Education in a design related field considered an asset (may be completed or in progress)
  • Experience and/or interest in creating communications plans and strategies
  • Knowledge of requirements for different types of design – social media, printed posters, etc.
  • Experience creating content for various social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and/or other networks
  • Creativity and curiosity mindset in design, leading with ideas and possibility
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to getting it right
  • Commitment and enthusiasm to working as part of a dynamic and fast-paced team
  • Dedicated to community building, creating equitable and dynamic public spaces and conversations
  • Experience doing design-related work in a non-profit environment is an asset.

Compensation and Details:

  • The work location is onsite at 10C Shared Space at 42 Carden Street, Guelph
  • This is a part-time role based on 30 hours/week at $20.90/hour (Ontario living wage for Guelph-Wellington.
  • The position duration is 9 weeks and the start date as early as May 10, 2024 (start date is flexible)
  • Design Assistant may be required to use their own computer for this role
  • Eligibility: Applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 30 and meet eligibility criteria for the 2024 Canada Summer Jobs program.

Community Engagement Assistant

Responsibilities of the Community Engagement Assistant will include:

Member and Partner Profiles – In close collaboration with the 10C staff team, the Communications Assistant will get to know the 10C member community to develop engaging stories through digital media. These tasks will include:

  • Work with 10C staff team to identify and prioritize member list 
  • Communicate and collaborate with individual members to understand and document their stories
  • Use digital media (blog, newsletter, social media) to curate and share member story content including written content, photos and videos

10C Projects and Programs – Working closely with other members of the 10C team, the Community Engagement Assistant will identify areas and types of communications support needed.

  • Promote arts and cultural events happening at 10C
  • Support the development of engaging presentations and reports across a variety of platforms to celebrate and share about 10C’s work
  • Curate and share project/program content through digital media channels (i.e. event promotions, project profiles, resource sharing)
  • Create and schedule content for social media using graphic design and scheduling programs

Community Placemaking Take pride and responsibility in the maintenance of the 10C spaces to foster community connection and collaboration.

  • Engage in member, community and business meetings and interactions in person and via phone and email to answer questions, support information requests and ensure timely follow-up
  • Assist with greeting members and building users, and additional reception duties
  • Set-up and reset meeting and event spaces, including arranging furniture, setting out stationary supplies and setting up tech equipment
  • Support the running of 10C events from planning and set-up through to execution
  • Collaborate with 10C team and Nourish Kitchen members to ensure smooth running and collaboration in the Nourish Kitchen, 10C’s shared commercial kitchen. May include the development and support of additional programming aimed at food literacy and food security.
  • Use initiative and creative thinking to make suggestions for improved operations and organizational efficiencies.

The Community Engagement Assistant will bring these experiences and abilities to the role:

  • Commitment and enthusiasm to working as part of a dynamic and fast-paced team
  • Exceptional communication skills with experience in social media campaigns, story-telling and/or copywriting
  • Experience in customer service or in community facing role
  • Comfort and familiarity with software programs like Google Workspace, Later, basic design skills using Canva and/or Adobe Suite an asset
  • Experience creating content for various social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and/or other networks
  • Ability and willingness to anticipate needs and support in the running of community events
  • Exceptional communication skills with experience in copywriting and editing an asset
  • Dedicated to community building, creating equitable and dynamic public spaces and conversations
  • Highly-organized with attention to detail and a commitment to getting it right
  • Creativity and curiosity

Farmers’ Market Assistant

Responsibilities of the Farmers’ Market Assistant will include:

Market logistics for Thursday and Saturday Markets:

  • Support site set-up and preparation of all areas of the facility in advance of market opening, including support for vendor set-up, wayfinding materials, and maintenance before, during and after markets
  • Support site take down and closing duties to reset space after the markets
  • Support tasks related to market execution, including responding to urgent vendor concerns, maintaining a clean and safe environment and performing other duties as needed
  • Support vendor invoicing and payments using online and digital platforms
  • Be available for customer questions and support during markets
  • Support the set-up and execution of events taking place on market grounds, including community meetings, food events and other market events, ensure the space is available and accessible for community use
  • In collaboration with the 10C and market teams, take initiative and think creatively about ways to improve market operations

Other Market events:

  • Support the planning and execution of events at the Market that are outside of the weekly Farmers’ Markets (i.e. vintage markets, craft fairs, trade shows)
  • Be available during events for support needed, including set-up, wayfinding and tear down
  • Offer insights and ideas for other market events and activities, including other community group uses and programs that may support community food literacy and security

Outreach:

  • In close collaboration with the 10C staff team, the Farmers’ Market Assistant will get to know the market vendor community to develop engaging stories through digital media (blog, newsletter, social media) including writing content and taking photos and videos
  • Support the development and dissemination of the Farmers’ Market newsletter, including print versions highlighting updates available on Saturdays for vendors and customers
  • Support the development and dissemination of printed promotional materials for Farmers’ Markets and events (i.e. postering, mailings, etc.)
  • Think creatively about ideal promotional channels and messaging for the Farmers’ Markets and additional events
  • In this role and in consultation with their supervisor, the Farmers’ Market Assistant will have the opportunity to take on tasks and responsibilities in line with their individual interests.

The Farmers’ Market Assistant will bring these experiences and abilities to the role:

  • Commitment and enthusiasm to working as part of a dynamic and fast-paced team
  • Experience in or enthusiasm for customer service and/or food service
  • Exceptional communication skills with experience in social media campaigns, story-telling and/or copywriting
  • Experience supporting community events and meetings with tasks like set-up, take down and anticipating needs
  • Comfort and familiarity with software programs like Google Workspace, Customer Relationship Management software, Canva and / or Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience creating content for various social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and/or other networks
  • Availability to work Thursday (3-8) and Saturday (7-2) markets
  • Some physical labour will be a part of this role (i.e. moving tables, setting up tents)
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to getting it right

Compensation and Details:

  • The work location is onsite at 10C Shared Space at 42 Carden Street, Guelph
  • This is a part-time role based on 30 hours/week at $20.90/hour (Ontario living wage for Guelph-Wellington)
  • Hours of work will include some evening and weekend work in line with market hours – Thursdays 4:00pm to 7:00pm and Saturdays 8:00am to 1:00pm (attendance at all markets is not mandatory)
  • The position duration is 9 weeks and the start date as early as May 10, 2024 (start date is flexible)
  • Farmers’ Market Assistant may be required to use their own computer for this role
  • Eligibility: Applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 30 and meet eligibility criteria for the 2024 Canada Summer Jobs program.
