Meet 10C Changemaker: Jasmine
Jasmine (she/her) is empowering community through food and neighbours.
Jasmine is working for change through her Community Advisor role with f.u.n. – Food Uniting Neighbours. This is a community of people who live, work, study, and play in the Onward Willow neighbourhood in Guelph. This role has her fully focused on supporting local food access that helps people overcome the barriers of being newcomers or struggling with poverty.
Jasmine’s dream for the future is having something like f.u.n. in every neighbourhood in Canada. People feel happy when they know they’re not alone, that there are people who care about them. Her personal mission is to help make settling into life in Canada easier and more enjoyable. She knows what it’s like to struggle and not know where to go for help, so she wants to make sure others know they can get help too.
The f.u.n. project has helped Jasmine with her anxiety and depression. She’s busier and seeing more people like herself – when she helps people, she feels like she is helping herself at the same time. Jasmine says she was struggling with hunger and low income before joining the group – now the work that she does pays for groceries and peace of mind.
Jasmine is a 10C changemaker because she is creating the conditions where change becomes possible.
