The SEED is a local organization that improves food access in Guelph-Wellington County. Since 2015, the SEED has been growing their program and social enterprise offerings to fill local gaps, driven by the long-term goals of addressing poverty and improving health and well-being.

Joining the Guelph Farmers’ Market as vendors in 2022, the SEED is bringing their sliding-scale market stand model – an innovative approach to improving food access. For the SEED staff, being part of the market means being surrounded by people who love food as much as they do!

In addition to produce, the SEED has added Makeover Muffins to their affordable offerings at the Guelph Farmers’ Market. Makeover Muffins are made in the SEED’s Upcycle Kitchen. The muffins are packaged in reusable containers from Friendlier Company. A truly zero-waste treat!

Partnering with local organizations helps the SEED work towards a connected community where everyone has access to healthy food and can reduce food waste throughout the region.

One collaboration that we really love is with Farmer Doug at Black Dog Acres. Doug provides us with a large bin for food scraps that he used to feed his livestock! He also kindly provides us with meat donations when he has surplus. It’s a wonderful reciprocal relationship.”

-The SEED

During peak growing season, the SEED offers as much local produce as possible! They frequent the Elmira Produce Auction sourcing fruits and vegetables from surrounding farms. They also source stone fruit from Fruition; another Guelph Farmers’ Market vendor bringing seasonal fruit from the Niagara Region. Recently, the SEED partnered with GreenTech AgriFood & Innovation Canada to help bring in Guelph-grown vegetables!

The SEED is powered by the community for the community! The volunteers, staff, customers, and partners all contribute to benefit from a better, more equitable circular food system. They have created a work environment that practices collective care, mutual trust and respect. This emanates through many of their community initiatives and the Guelph Farmers’ Market.

As part of the Guelph Farmers’ Market community, the SEED is improving access to affordable, fresh and nutritious food! Their sliding-scale business model and other community focused enterprises support work towards the Sustainable Development Goals
