Shelldale Farm Park Ribbon Cutting
Today we celebrated a special day! It was the official ribbon cutting ceremony at Shelldale Farm Park now located at 20 Shelldale Crescent.
The Shelldale Farm Park includes an accessible, inclusive community garden for diverse individuals and families in the Onward Willow Community in Guelph. In total, there are 46 garden plots that offer a sunny space to grow fruit, vegetables, flowers or herbs.
Many people and organizations have supported the advancement of this project including Onward Willow residents, Guelph Community Health Centre, Everdale Farm, Shelldale Family Gateway, Kindle, 10C Shared Space and Our Food Future. In 2021, Shelldale was the grand prize winner and recipient of $70,000 from the Guelph Wellington Urban Agriculture Challenge.
The Shelldale Farm Park is a space that improves local food security, promotes collaboration and strengthens community resiliency and social engagement. Food that’s grown in the Park brings together individuals from a community that represents over 35 languages!
“Shelldale is an example of community; a landscape that increases access to nutritious community food” – Mayor Cam Guthrie
Continuous support and investment in the project helps Shelldale establish permanent roots that have a lasting impact on the community.
